Islanders legend Mike Bossy, whose scoring touch helped drive the franchise to four straight championships, died after a battle with terminal lung cancer. He was 65.

Bossy’s diagnosis became public last October, when he stepped away from his job as an NHL analyst for the French language network TVA Sports to deal with his health.

lol. So the oilers win five cups in the eighties but they’re not a dynasty. Ok.

Takes 3 championships in row to make any sporting dynasty, only 2 years in row doesn't count even when it 5 in 10 years - lots of teams in every sport have 2 in row it not uncommon.

PURE sniper

C Gilles- B Trottier- M Bossy ...not a bad line, eh?

In NHL history, he is the only player to score 50 goals 9 straight years

goals per game
(minimum 200 goals scored) in NHL history;

M Bossy- 0.76
M Lemieux - 0.75
The Rest

............................

“You think of Mike Bossy,” said Hall of Fame Oilers defenceman Paul Coffey, “you think of just a pure, pure goal scorer. A great hockey player who always knew where the net was.

“On his stick, off his stick,” marvelled Coffey. “He didn't have a piercing shot like a Brett Hull, or even Guy Lafleur. But I don’t think Mike ever missed the net.”

“Mike was such a smart player. His hockey sense is off the charts,” admired Coffey. “He would stay just far enough away from the defenceman that you couldn’t go that high up into the deep slot to take him. He would get into that area where you were like, ‘Should I stay back and defend in front of my net?' And then everything was on his stick, on the net.

.........................

“I love you, Mike”: Trottier launched this moving phrase while paying tribute to number 22.

A week before Bossy's departure, swept away by lung cancer, Trottier visited his former right winger at his home in Rosemère. He spent two days in Quebec, the time to say a last goodbye.

"My heart is with his family," Trottier said in a telephone interview with Le Journal on Friday morning. It's a sad day for me, but I think even more of his wife, daughters and two granddaughters. My heart is heavy. Mike was a great man for several reasons. A family man. We are losing a great man.”

“I had a unique bond with Mike on the ice, but also off the ice. There was a truly magical bond between us.........There isn't a better scorer in the history of hockey than Mike."

Dear Diary ...today I learned that the meaning of DYNASTY is winning 3 years in a row.....no other acheivements count towards that arbitrary definition....

Dear God...

Can you give us back Bossy? In exchange, we hand over poster BOZZIE to Satan in Hell.

Please consider. We think this is more than fair.

Sincerely,

TheRX FORUM.

You don't have to agree but you're just making it easier to include all the 2 year convective winning teams as dynasty teams when they shouldn't be - not being champion after 2 years isn't very impressive, nor are political dynasties that get overthrown after 2 years. 2 year stint of anything isn't long enough for much except to say repeat Champions.

So if Tampa wins the Cup this year they are a dynasty team but an Oilers team that won four cups in five years is not?

You can call it the Gretzky Dynasty if that makes it easier.

Correct if TB wins again it is a dynasty because they would be undefeated for 3 or more years, whereas Edmonton was never undefeated for any more than 2 seasons, despite winning more later on - it's similar to historical monarchies that don't last very long not being referred to as dynasties, whereas monarchies that go many years uninterrupted are referred to as dynasties.

As for Gretzky, he is the best player ever, but not the most winningest.

"Winning five Stanley Cup championships in seven seasons was an incredible run; one that earned them acknowledgement by The Hockey News as the greatest NHL dynasty of all time."
